Offered for auction is a nice grouping to private Percival Lester Alg, he was a member of the 749th Railway Operating Bataillon and his personal details are neatly described in his soldiers handbook. Also his two (uncommon) manuals related to his unit are included. Interestingly, this unit was sent to LUZON in 1945 to repair and maintain several key railway tracks in the US theatre of operations, with their unit receiving a PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITAITON for their outstanding duties. There is a movie online on youtube SPECIFICALLY about this unit (https://prf.hn/click/camref:1011l3RSR/creativeref:1101l25680/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DWTrae8P4oe4 ) of about an hour which really shows how their lives looked like. Who knows prvt. Alg is als on the movie :- ) I added two screenshots from this movie to the photo's and you can access it via the link above. Also included is a very neat photo of him posing with a captured? Japanese howitzer.
I havent done any more research due to time constraints. This would be great to do for the buyer.
Nice grouping / set of a rare US ARMY TRAIN / RAILWAY unit that will be a great set for your collection and/or to research in more detail!
